on solitude

a very good friend of mine
whom i treasure
and with whom i can share roadtrips
or
be quietly working, two people alone in shared space
alerted me to this TED talk by Susan Cain

i've watched it a couple of times now
and thought it was time to share

  4. Thank you for posting this. I've been meaning to watch it on TED, but hadn't taken the time yet. I have her book to read - hopefully it will shed a bit more light on why I am the way I am...proudly an introvert.

  5. what a joy!

this struck a chord on many levels... and I had a moment of epiphany when susan spoke of the differences between character and personality - and how societal values have changed.... I still live in a place (both geographic and philosophic) where character still matters... (however quietly or loudly it may present itself)....

welllll I'm off to weed in the garden again.... alone (just how I like it) thanks for (quietly) sharing this gem xx

  7. Yes! Another introvert here! Thanks India. I really enjoyed the video..... and have just put the book on my wishlist. (Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking). When I was a child there was no TV in South Africa so I developed a wonderful reading habit. When my daughters were young TV arrived in South Africa and even though I tried to instil the reading habit in them, TV won. I really miss quiet evenings reading books. Now I slip in some reading at lunch time.
